Digital Forensics

When digital evidence decides the case.

Forensically sound analysis of data, timestamps, and artifacts. Court-qualified expert reports and testimony. What was once called computer forensics has grown to cover every surface where digital evidence lives - servers, endpoints, mobile devices, and cloud platforms.

Overview

Evidence with a chain of custody that holds up.

Digital forensics is the disciplined examination of electronic data in a manner that preserves evidentiary integrity. Our analysts are court-qualified experts, some with over 25 years of practice. Firm-wide, E-Hounds has been qualified in more than 250 cases across state and federal jurisdictions.

Every engagement begins with rigorous acquisition: bit-for-bit imaging of original media, cryptographic hashing, and a documented chain of custody that accompanies the evidence from intake through testimony. Nothing on the original media is changed, and every step we take is auditable.

Core Capabilities

What we do every week, every month, every year.

Date and time stamp recovery

Nearly every operating system maintains several forms of date and time stamps for its files. We determine actual dates and times using system artifacts beyond the onboard clock, critical for piecing together a suspected computer crime or unauthorized activity.

Financial record analysis

Budgets and cash flows document trails of business interactions. Most financial records are password-protected and encrypted; our team has the tools and experience to access encrypted financial software and preserve the analysis for expert testimony.

Data integrity analysis

We verify whether records have been altered, determine the source of suspected changes, and document the chain of custody in a manner suitable for court. Original media is preserved throughout.

Key evidence search

We locate deleted documents, recover artifacts of historical system use, and search effectively across obsolete mainframes, legacy financial systems, and modern cloud platforms alike.

Federal experience

Retained by the FBI Tampa Field Office and federal receivers.

E-Hounds has served as the forensic and eDiscovery vendor of record on SEC, CFTC, and FTC-initiated receivership matters in the Middle District of Florida, has supported the FBI Tampa Field Office on mortgage-fraud and evidence-recovery work, and is registered on SAM.gov for federal contracting.

For counsel navigating bankruptcy receivership, mass-fraud forensics, or sensitive criminal matters, our staff has handled the underlying forensic work end-to-end, from servers pulled from commercial storage to mobile devices recovered from water.

Digital forensics is one part of a larger service line.

Many matters that start as a forensic examination expand into eDiscovery review, AI-content authentication, expert testimony, or social media and OSINT monitoring. Our in-house platform and the same team that performed the forensics stay with the matter end-to-end.
